Is Carhartt Made in Bangladesh? What the Label Actually Tells You
If you have just pulled a Carhartt jacket off the rail, checked the inside tag, and read "Made in Bangladesh," you may be wondering whether that is normal, whether it is genuine, and what it says about the quality. It is a fair question, and it comes up a lot.
The short answer: Carhartt is made in many countries, and yes, some Carhartt items are made in Bangladesh. But "Carhartt" is not a single factory in a single place. It is a global brand that produces across a network of countries, and the only thing that tells you where your specific garment was made is the label sewn inside it.
Before we go further, one note about us. We are madeinbangladesh.trade, an independent sourcing and export house in Dhaka. We are not Carhartt, not affiliated with Carhartt, and not a supplier to them. This is an informational guide for people searching an honest question.
Two different companies use the Carhartt name
This trips up a lot of shoppers, so it is worth clearing up first. There are two related but separate businesses that both use the Carhartt name:
- Carhartt (Carhartt, Inc.), the original American workwear company founded in 1889, known for duck canvas jackets, bib overalls, and work pants.
- Carhartt WIP (Work In Progress), a European company that licenses the Carhartt name to make a streetwear-oriented line sold mostly in fashion and skate retail.
They share heritage and a logo, but they run their own supply chains. That matters for this question, because their published manufacturing information is different.
What Carhartt WIP says about Bangladesh
Carhartt WIP is the more transparent of the two on this point. On its own "Where It's Made" page, the company states that its main manufacturing hub is in Tunisia, and adds that it also works "with a large network of vendors located in China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Pakistan and Bangladesh" (Carhartt WIP, Where It's Made, accessed 2026).
So for the European Carhartt WIP line, Bangladesh is a confirmed part of the vendor network, stated by the company itself. If you own a Carhartt WIP piece with a Bangladesh label, that is entirely expected and genuine.
What about the original American Carhartt?
The US workwear company is a bit more complicated, because it splits its production.
Carhartt, Inc. keeps a portion of its production in the United States. It runs a "Made in USA" collection, and its website lets you filter products by country of origin so you can see which items are US-made. Iconic pieces like certain duck work jackets and dungarees are part of that domestic line.
But a large share of Carhartt's catalog is imported. Depending on the season and the product, Carhartt garments are made in a range of countries across Latin America and Asia, and Bangladesh appears on the labels of some items. Carhartt, Inc. does not publish a complete public supplier list that maps every product to a factory. So while some Carhartt items clearly carry a "Made in Bangladesh" label, we cannot tell you exactly which products or how much of the range is produced there, because the brand does not disclose that fully.
This is the honest position, and it is the same for most large apparel brands: production rotates across many countries by category, order size, and season, and the label on the item in your hand is the only certain proof of where it was made.
How to read the label yourself
The country of origin is a legal declaration, not marketing copy. Here is where to find it:
- Jackets and shirts: the inner collar or side-seam tag.
- Pants and overalls: the waistband tag or a tag inside the pocket bag.
- Bags and accessories: a sewn-in tag along an inside seam.
Whatever the shelf tag, website listing, or box says, the sewn-in country label is the controlling document. If it says "Made in Bangladesh," it was made in Bangladesh. If it says "Made in USA," it was made in the USA.
Does "Made in Bangladesh" mean lower quality?
This is usually the real worry behind the search, so let us address it directly. A Bangladesh label does not mean a lower-quality garment.
Bangladesh is one of the largest apparel manufacturing countries in the world, and its factories produce for a long list of global brands across every price tier, from basics to technical outerwear. Quality is set by the brand's specification, the fabric and trims chosen, and the quality control on the line, not by the country stamp alone. A well-specified jacket sewn in Dhaka can match one sewn anywhere else. We cover this in more depth in our guide to whether Made in Bangladesh is good quality.
If anything, the country label tells you more about cost strategy and capacity than about how good the piece is.
Is a Bangladesh-labeled Carhartt fake?
Not on the basis of the country alone. Genuine Carhartt is made in many countries, so "Made in Bangladesh" by itself is not a sign of a counterfeit. To judge authenticity, look at the whole picture: consistent stitching, correct logo and hardware, a proper care and content label, realistic pricing, and a reputable seller. Country of origin is a normal part of a real label, not a red flag.
Frequently asked questions
Is Carhartt made in Bangladesh?
Some Carhartt items are. Carhartt WIP, the European line, names Bangladesh among its vendor countries on its own website. The original US Carhartt also imports from several countries, and Bangladesh appears on some labels, though Carhartt does not publish a full product-by-factory list. The label inside your item is the definitive answer.
Is all Carhartt made overseas?
No. Carhartt keeps a "Made in USA" collection produced in the United States, and its site lets you filter for those items. Much of the wider range, however, is imported from various countries.
Why does Carhartt make products in so many countries?
Large brands spread production across countries to match each product to the right factory, manage cost and capacity, and keep up with demand. This is standard across the apparel industry, not unique to Carhartt.
Does a Bangladesh label mean my Carhartt is poor quality?
No. Quality is driven by the design specification, materials, and quality control, not the country of origin. Bangladesh factories produce for many premium and mainstream brands.
How do I know if my Carhartt is genuine?
Check overall construction, logo and hardware accuracy, the care label, price, and seller reputation. The country of origin alone does not indicate a fake.
